IMD weather update: Heavy to very heavy rain forecast for several states from July 27
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast widespread rainfall across several parts of the country from Sunday, July 27, with heavy to very heavy rainfall expected in multiple states over the coming days.

According to the latest IMD bulletin, several regions in north, central, east, west, north-east and south India are likely to witness intense monsoon activity, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds. Authorities have advised residents to remain alert in areas vulnerable to flooding, waterlogging and landslides.

IMD weather update: North India to witness widespread rainfall

The IMD has predicted fairly widespread to widespread rainfall across Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh and Uttarakhand through the week.


Rainfall activity is also expected to increase over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan from July 27 onwards, with several areas likely to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall during the week.

The weather department has also warned of thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds in parts of Rajasthan and Uttarakhand.

IMD weather update: Heavy rain likely over Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh

Central India is expected to remain under the influence of an active monsoon system.

According to the IMD, East Madhya Pradesh, West Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh are likely to receive widespread rainfall over the next few days.

Chhattisgarh has been placed under a higher alert, with heavy to very heavy rainfall and isolated extremely heavy rainfall forecast on July 27.

Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds are also expected across parts of Madhya Pradesh and neighbouring regions.

IMD weather update: Odisha, West Bengal and Bihar on rain watch

Eastern India is also likely to witness significant rainfall activity.

The IMD has forecast widespread rainfall over Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, Jharkhand and Bihar during the coming days.

Odisha is expected to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall, with isolated locations likely to experience extremely heavy rainfall on July 27.

Heavy rainfall is also expected in Jharkhand, while Bihar is likely to see increased rainfall towards the end of the forecast period.

IMD weather update: North-East India likely to receive persistent rainfall

The weather department has forecast continued rainfall across the north-eastern states, including Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura.

Heavy rainfall is likely in several districts, while Assam and Meghalaya could witness very heavy rainfall around July 29.

Thunderstorms and lightning are also expected across much of the region.

IMD weather update: Konkan, Maharashtra and Gujarat to receive more showers

Monsoon conditions are expected to remain active over western India.

According to the IMD, Konkan & Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, Gujarat Region and Saurashtra & Kutch are likely to receive moderate to heavy rainfall during the forecast period.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in parts of Konkan & Goa and Madhya Maharashtra, while isolated heavy rainfall is also forecast for Gujarat and neighbouring regions.

IMD weather update: Kerala, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh remain under monsoon influence

In south India, Kerala & Mahe, Coastal Karnataka, Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Rayalaseema and Interior Karnataka are expected to continue receiving monsoon rainfall.

The IMD has forecast isolated heavy rainfall over Kerala & Mahe, Coastal Karnataka and Coastal Andhra Pradesh, along with thunderstorms, lightning and strong surface winds in several parts of the region.

A thundersquall with wind speeds of 50-70 kmph is also likely over Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam during the forecast period.

IMD warns of thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds

Besides heavy rainfall, the IMD has issued warnings for thunderstorms and lightning across several states.

Gusty winds of 30-60 kmph are expected in many regions, while stronger winds reaching 70 kmph may occur in isolated parts of Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam.

Residents are advised to avoid open areas during thunderstorms and follow advisories issued by local authorities.

IMD issues hot and humid weather warning

Despite the active monsoon, the IMD has said hot and humid conditions are likely to persist over Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam between July 27 and July 28.

People in the affected areas are advised to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged exposure to heat during the day and monitor official weather updates.

With heavy rainfall forecast across several states, residents should:
  • Follow the latest IMD and local administration advisories.
  • Avoid travelling through waterlogged roads and flood-prone areas.
  • Stay away from rivers, streams and landslide-prone locations during heavy rain.
