Video: Stone pelting in Nagpur to Mumbai Duronto Express cracks window glasses in reserved coaches; fragments fly past passengers eyes

Passengers travelling on the Nagpur-Mumbai Duronto Express got a scare on Friday night when a stone smashed through a coach window right after the train pulled out of Borkhedi station in Maharashtra. Three reserved coaches, A-1, B-2 and B-5, ended up with cracked glass, railway officials confirmed.

A clip of the moment has been doing the rounds online. In it, five people are seated together, sharing a meal, when the window beside them bursts open without warning. Glass bits fly across the cabin, landing near the group before settling onto the berths.

Group says meal was interrupted by sudden crash


Speaking about the scare, one of the passengers seen in the video said the group had boarded at Nagpur for Mumbai and was mid meal when the pane gave way with no signal beforehand. Railway escort staff present in the coach echoed this, informing officials that something struck the windows from the outside close to 8.27 pm. Nobody in the coach suffered any injury, though the jolt left everyone rattled briefly.

Teams comb villages around Borkhedi for clues

Word of the damage reached Railway Protection Force and Government Railway Police units within minutes, and teams were on the ground by 8.46 pm scanning the Borkhedi-Sindhi stretch, roughly between the 803 and 796 kilometre marks. Officers extended the sweep into Borkhedi village and neighbouring Brahmani, speaking with the local Police Patil and residents staying near the rail line.

Despite the effort, the search has not turned up a name or a lead so far. Railway sources say patrols will keep going over the next few days as investigators try to pin down the exact spot the stone was thrown from.

FIR filed, staff on other trains told to watch out

An FIR, Crime No. 325/2026, was lodged in the early hours of Saturday, at 2.55 am, booking an unidentified person under Section 153 of the Railway Act. Railway officials say tracing the launch point of the stone remains a priority, and escort crews aboard other trains running through the same corridor have been put on alert.
