US primary election winners 2026
Five US states — Kansas, Michigan, Missouri, Virginia and Washington — are holding primary elections on Tuesday, with several closely watched House and Senate contests that could shape control of Congress in next year's midterm elections.
Several Democratic primaries feature incumbents facing progressive challengers. The races are also unfolding against the backdrop of redistricting battles. Republicans in Missouri redrew the state's congressional map to strengthen their electoral prospects, while Virginia shifted its primary from June to August as part of a Democratic-backed redistricting effort that was later struck down by the courts.
