The Great Khali joins Assam flood relief drive, backs homes for affected families

Former professional wrestler and public figure The Great Khali has joined a relief and rehabilitation effort for flood-affected families in Sivasagar, Assam, as volunteers work to provide not just emergency supplies but permanent support to communities rebuilding after the floods.

The Great Khali appeals to celebrities

During his visit to Assam, Khali appealed to celebrities and other public figures to step forward and support families affected by the floods. He said public figures could use their reach and resources to help people during a crisis.


“Before we are celebrities, we are human beings. If we cannot come forward to serve another human being, then being a celebrity has little meaning,” Khali said.

His participation comes as relief groups look beyond immediate assistance and focus on helping families rebuild their lives.

100 houses planned for flood-hit families

The rehabilitation programme is being organised by Jodhpur-based TrueHope Foundation with local partners and individuals, including Deepalina Deka and Ayan for Assam.

As part of the initiative, organisers plan to construct 100 houses for 100 flood-affected families. The housing project is aimed at giving families a more permanent solution after the destruction caused by the floods.

The relief effort will also provide 500 beds, 500 mattresses, 1,000 pillows, 500 fans and 500 water filters. Ration kits and other household essentials will also be distributed among affected families.

Khali said he was impressed by the scale of the initiative and its focus on basic needs.

“When people come together with a genuine intention to help, it can make a meaningful difference to families trying to rebuild their lives,” he said.

Relief effort may expand to Odisha

Kuldeep Khatri, co-founder of TrueHope Foundation, said the organisation's work would not stop with Assam. The team, along with Khali, is also expected to travel to Odisha to assess the requirements of flood-affected communities there.

The assistance in Odisha will be based on the needs identified by the team during its visit.

Focus shifts from relief to rehabilitation

Khali also spoke about his connection with rural communities and his interactions with people during his Assam visit. His presence was intended to bring wider attention to the difficulties faced by families trying to recover after the floods.

The organisers are seeking to combine immediate relief with longer-term rehabilitation. While essential supplies can provide short-term support, the planned houses are intended to give affected families a more stable path towards rebuilding.

The participation of public figures such as Khali could also help draw more people and organisations into the relief effort as communities continue their recovery.
