Telegram unavailable on App Store? Here's what messaging app said after it allegedly disappeared

Telegram said on Monday that its messaging app has been restored on Apple's App Store after Reuters checks earlier in the day showed it was unavailable.

"Telegram has been restored on the App Store and ⁠should soon be ‌available again for all ⁠users," Telegram told Reuters.

Earlier in the day, a message displayed on Telegram's Apple App Store page read, "The ‌page you're looking for can't be found."


Founded by Pavel Durov and his brother in 2013, Telegram has grown to more than 1 billion monthly active users worldwide. The platform supports one-on-one chats, group conversations and large "channels" that allow users to broadcast messages to subscribers.

Unlike rivals such as Meta's WhatsApp, Telegram allows group chats with up to 200,000 members, compared with WhatsApp's limit of 1,024 participants. The large group size has drawn criticism from experts, who say it can make the spread of misinformation easier.

Telegram also offers end-to-end encryption, but users must manually enable the feature. It is available only for one-on-one conversations and does not support group chats. By comparison, chats on Signal and Facebook Messenger are encrypted end-to-end by default.
