Techie starts with Rs 3.2 lakh at TCS, lands Rs 40 lakh Amazon role within a year

A tech professional’s journey from a Tier-3 government college to Amazon has drawn attention online, after his career reportedly took a sharp turn within a year of joining his first company.

According to an X post shared by VikasAlwys, Sourabh Mishra completed his B.Tech from UPTC, described in the post as a Tier-3 government college. He began his career at Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) as an Assistant System Engineer with an annual package of Rs 3.2 lakh.

Mishra’s career reportedly changed significantly within his first year in the industry, when he secured a role at Amazon with a compensation package of around Rs 40 lakh per annum.

From GATE preparation to his first job at TCS

During his college years, Mishra was reportedly less focused on campus placements and instead concentrated on preparing for the GATE Computer Science examination.

The X post said his preparation was largely centred on theory, while he spent relatively little time on coding and placement-related preparation.

His plans changed later because of family circumstances. The post said Mishra needed to contribute financially to his family, prompting him to take up a job despite his earlier focus on the GATE examination.

He subsequently joined TCS as an Assistant System Engineer at a starting annual package of Rs 3.2 lakh.

A major career shift within one year

The TCS role reportedly became a stepping stone to a much larger opportunity. After spending around a year at the company, Mishra is said to have secured a position at Amazon, with his compensation rising to approximately Rs 40 lakh annually.

According to the post, Mishra currently works as a Cloud Engineer at Amazon and earns more than Rs 40 lakh per year.

The reported jump in compensation within a relatively short period has become the central point of discussion around his career journey, particularly because his first job began at a considerably lower salary.

The account of Mishra’s career path has also prompted reactions from users on X, with several describing the journey as an example of persistence and determination.
