Tamil Nadu weather today (August 4): IMD forecasts rain, thunderstorms in Chennai, Madurai and other regions

The India Meteorological Department is expecting Tamil Nadu to witness moderate rainfall in several districts, including Chennai, Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu and Madurai, on Tuesday, while thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are expected at isolated places across the rest of the state and the Karaikal region.

The IMD said moderate rain is likely at a few places over the Western Ghat districts, Tiruvannamalai, Villuppuram, Cuddalore, Kancheepuram, Chennai, Madurai, Chengalpattu, the Delta districts, Puducherry and Karaikal. Isolated places in these regions may also witness thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds reaching 40-50 kmph. Meanwhile, the rest of Tamil Nadu is expected to receive light rain at a few places, with isolated thunderstorms and lightning.

Day 4 (August 7)	Heavy rain is likely at isolated places over the ghat areas of Tirunelveli. Moderate rain is expected over the remaining Western Ghat districts, while light rain is likely across the rest of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal.
Day 5 (August 8)	Moderate rain at isolated places is likely over the Western Ghat districts.
Day 6 (August 9)	Light rain at isolated places is likely over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal.

Tamil Nadu weather: Heavy rainfall alert

The IMD has also issued a heavy rainfall warning for parts of Tamil Nadu later this week. Heavy rain is likely at isolated places over the ghat areas of Theni and Tirunelveli districts on Day 3 (August 6), while the ghat areas of Tirunelveli are expected to continue receiving heavy rainfall on Day 4 (August 7). In addition, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds reaching 40-50 kmph are likely at one or two places across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal on Day 1 (August 4).
