Sonam Wangchuk is 'proud of Indian Railways'; praises Delhi-Srinagar Vande Bharat journey & describes Chenab Rail Bridge as 'beautiful experience'

Activist Sonam Wangchuk on Thursday welcomed the introduction of the Public Examinations (Amendment) Bill in Parliament, expressing hope that it would pave the way for wider reforms in India's education system.

At the same time, he urged the Centre to honour its written assurance that no legal action would be taken against students who participated in the recent protests over alleged examination irregularities.

In a video message shared on X while travelling to Ladakh, Wangchuk also praised the Indian Railways after his journey on the Vande Bharat train from Delhi to Srinagar.

Speaking from his journey, Wangchuk described travelling on the Vande Bharat train and crossing the Chenab rail bridge as a memorable experience.

"I am very proud of the Indian Railways," he said, adding that the journey was "a very beautiful experience".

He said he and his team would spend a day in Kashmir before continuing their journey to Ladakh.

Referring to the Public Examinations (Amendment) Bill introduced in Parliament, Wangchuk said he was encouraged by the government's move to strengthen the country's examination system.

However, he stressed that reforms should extend beyond examinations and address the broader education sector.

"I hope that the reform is not only in exams, but also in education," he said.

Wangchuk also appealed to the government to fulfil the commitments it had made to him and later to the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) after the recent agitation concluded.

He called on the authorities to ensure that students who took part in the demonstrations are not subjected to legal action.

"I would like to appeal to the government that the agreements that were made, first with me in writing and then with the CJP, that they will not carry out any legal action on the students in the demonstration, that they will not carry out any FIRs, that they should remain steadfast on it, follow it, and create an environment of trust in the country, especially among the youth generation," he said.

Highlighting the importance of maintaining confidence between young people and the government, Wangchuk said such trust was essential for building a stronger nation.

"Trust between the government and young people is essential for building a great nation and a great India," he said.

CJP reiterates demand to withdraw FIRs against protesters

Wangchuk's appeal comes as the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) continues to press the government to ensure that no criminal cases are filed against students and protesters who joined the nationwide agitation over alleged irregularities in public examinations.

The outfit has also sought a written assurance that all pending FIRs and legal cases against protesters will be withdrawn. It has warned that it could resume its protests if the government fails to honour the commitments made during negotiations.
