Single mother, bridal makeup artist and cab driver: Female taxi driver's story wins hearts online

In a video titled "Highlight of my day", Aayushi Lahiri shared her conversation with Shobhna, the female driver assigned to her ride. During the journey, Shobhna spoke about taking up cab driving alongside her work as a bridal makeup artist and her responsibilities as a single mother.

After getting into the cab, Lahiri told Shobhna that she was excited to see her name on the app and added that it was good to see a woman driving a cab.

When Lahiri asked how long she had been working as a cab driver, Shobhna said she had started in June. She also shared that she was a single mother and worked as a bridal makeup artist.

Shobhna takes up driving to supplement income

Shobhna explained that bridal makeup work was not regular, prompting her to look for another source of income. She said she did not want to stay at home and decided to start driving, which she described as a passion.

"Our work is not regular. So I wanted to do something else. I did not want to sit at home, so I started this. This [driving] is my passion as well. I have been driving since I was 10 years old. I love driving," Shobhna said.

Lahiri, who works as an actor, said she immediately related to Shobhna's experience because opportunities in her own profession can also be limited. She then introduced herself as an actor.

Social media users praise women supporting women

The video drew positive reactions from social media users, with several people saying Shobhna's story was inspiring and praising the presence of women in a profession often dominated by men.

"Women telling women stories," one user commented, while another said they were also a cab driver and found it encouraging to see another woman doing the same work.

Another user thanked Lahiri for sharing Shobhna's story and said her passion for driving was inspiring and had left them smiling.

A fourth user described the interaction as beautiful, saying it was heartening to see two women having such a conversation.
