School holiday tomorrow, July 29: Will schools remain closed as IMD issues heavy rainfall alert for several states?

Students and parents searching for a school holiday tomorrow (July 29) should note that no state government has announced a statewide closure of schools for Wednesday, July 29, as of now.

Visakhapatnam schools and colleges to remain closed on July 29

As per reports, a holiday has been declared for 221 schools and colleges in Visakhapatnam district on July 28 and July 29 in view of the annual Simhachalam Giripradakshina.


The district administration has taken the decision to ensure the smooth conduct of the religious procession, public safety, traffic management and uninterrupted movement of the large number of devotees expected to participate in the annual pilgrimage.

The closure applies only to educational institutions located along the 32-kilometre Giripradakshina route. Students and parents have been advised to follow the revised schedule issued by the district authorities.

IMD weather forecast for July 29

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast widespread rainfall across several parts of the country on July 29, with heavy to very heavy rainfall likely in a number of states.

Northwest India

Heavy rainfall is likely over parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Delhi, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds are also expected in several areas.

Central India

Heavy to very heavy rainfall has been forecast for Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha. Extremely heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places over Chhattisgarh, East Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha on July 29.

East and Northeast India

Heavy rainfall is expected over Jharkhand, Odisha, Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura. Very heavy rainfall is also likely in isolated areas, along with thunderstorms and gusty winds.

West India

Parts of Konkan and Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada and Gujarat are likely to receive heavy rainfall, with thunderstorms and strong winds expected in several districts.

South India

Heavy rainfall has been forecast over Kerala, Coastal Karnataka, Telangana, Coastal Andhra Pradesh and parts of Karnataka, while thunderstorms and gusty winds are likely across several southern states.

Will schools close due to rain on July 29?

At present, no widespread school holiday has been announced for July 29 because of the weather. However, district administrations may order temporary closures if rainfall leads to waterlogging, flooding or safety concerns.
