Rickshaw driver's son gets KGMU MBBS seat: How this UP student made a comeback from 504 to 627 in NEET UG 2026 despite financial struggles

For Prabhat Kumar Yadav, a second attempt at NEET UG changed the direction of his medical career. The student from Devkipur village in Uttar Pradesh’s Jaunpur district scored 627 marks in NEET UG 2026 and secured an All India Rank (AIR) of 3,864, earning an MBBS seat at King George’s Medical University (KGMU), Lucknow.

His journey to medical college was not easy. He moved from his village to Kota for coaching, faced money problems and appeared for NEET again after scoring 504 marks in his first attempt. His success also shows how much his family worked to support his education.

NEET UG 2026: Prabhat improves score from 504 to 627 marks

Prabhat had appeared for NEET earlier but scored 504 marks in his first attempt. Instead of giving up on his medical aspirations, he took a drop year and prepared for the examination again.

His second attempt produced a significant improvement. He scored 627 marks in NEET UG 2026, securing AIR 3,864 and a place at KGMU.

His academic record before NEET was also strong. According to NDTV, Prabhat scored 89.44 per cent in Class 10 and 83.44 per cent in Class 12.

From Jaunpur village to Kota for NEET preparation

Prabhat initially prepared for NEET in his village before moving to Kota for classroom coaching.

Financial constraints remained a challenge for the family. He received a 50 per cent fee concession from ALLEN Career Institute, while the remaining amount was paid through monthly instalments, according to India Today. His maternal uncle, Dayaram Yadav, also supported his education during this period.

The support allowed Prabhat to continue his preparation and take another shot at the medical entrance examination.

NEET UG success backed by father’s years of work in Mumbai

Behind Prabhat’s medical college admission is also the story of his father, Mahendra Kumar Yadav, who has spent nearly 20 years working as an auto-rickshaw driver in Mumbai.

According to India Today, Mahendra lived in a small chawl in Mumbai and regularly sent his earnings back home to support the family and his children’s education. Prabhat continued to live in Devkipur with his mother Bansraji, grandfather Indra Bahadur Yadav and siblings.

The family’s circumstances meant that funding Prabhat’s education required sustained financial support, particularly during his coaching years.

Prabhat’s NEET UG 2026 score has now secured him an MBBS seat at King George’s Medical University in Lucknow, one of Uttar Pradesh’s prominent medical institutions.

His story has also resonated in Devkipur and neighbouring villages, where relatives, villagers and well-wishers have congratulated the family following his result. India Today reported that other students from the area have also approached Prabhat for advice on competitive examination preparation.

The journey from preparing for NEET in a village to studying medicine at KGMU has been shaped by a second attempt, financial assistance and years of family support.
