Thinking of moving abroad? Indian expat highlights challenges often missed on social media
An Indian expat living in Paris has highlighted the challenges of settling abroad, saying that moving to another country requires preparation, patience and determination beyond what is often shown on social media.

In an Instagram video, Tanishq Lohan said living overseas can transform lives, but only for those who are prepared for the difficulties that come with adapting to a new environment.

Financial burden and job search among key challenges

Lohan said many young Indians decide to move abroad after seeing images of better opportunities and lifestyles online, without considering the financial and personal challenges involved.

He pointed out that many aspirants take education or personal loans of Rs 50 to Rs 60 lakh or more to fund their plans, but added that financial investment alone does not ensure success.

He said finding employment, including part-time work, requires significant effort and that opportunities are not guaranteed immediately after arrival.

Language, cultural shift and leaving family behind

Lohan said adapting to a new country involves more than financial planning. He highlighted challenges such as learning a new language, adjusting to different cultures and being away from family.

He clarified that he was not discouraging people from moving abroad, but urged them to make decisions based on clear goals rather than online perceptions.

In his caption, he said social media often highlights higher salaries and opportunities while overlooking the daily struggles involved in building a life in another country.

Social media users relate to expat's message

The video received reactions from users who agreed with Lohan's perspective on life abroad.
