Man bought his dad an iPhone Duo and filmed his first experience with the foldable phone. The father examined the device, struggled to turn it on and then opened it backwards without noticing the bigger screen inside, leaving users to comment that they were afraid he will open it in a wrong way and snap it immediately.

The son shared the video on X with the caption, “Made sure my dad was the first in our bloodline to fold an iPhone and it became the most boomer unboxing ever.” Their conversation captures the moment the father discovers how the phone works, with his son's repeated instructions leading to a realisation about the display he had been missing.

The video begins with the father looking at the phone as his son explains that he can fold it.

“Oh, man. This is an invention,” the father says as he examines the device.

His son asks him to turn it on, but the father continues looking at the phone. The son eventually takes it from him, turns it on and hands it back.

The father then gets another look at the device. At one point, he remarks, “This phone is worth three thousand dollars.”

The conversation soon moves to how the phone opens. His son wants him to unfold it and look at the larger display, but the father does not immediately understand what he needs to do.

Dad opens the phone backwards and misses the inner screen

The father opens the phone the wrong way without looking at the larger screen inside. His son notices the mistake and asks, “Why you keep doing it this way? You got a whole screen here.”

That instruction finally helps his father understand what he has been missing.

“Oh, this is a screen. That's why I was thinking, what happened?” the father says when he discovers the inner display.

His son explains that the other side also has a screen. The father responds, “Oh, yeah? Oh, okay.”

Dad approved: $3,000 price tag

At one point, the father remarks that the phone is worth $3,000. The price makes his attempts to understand the device an additional talking point, as he tries to work out how to handle a piece of technology he finds unfamiliar.

The video captures a family interaction in which a new gadget becomes an impromptu lesson. The father does not immediately understand how the screens work together, and each explanation leads to another moment of discovery. The son sees a simple folding mechanism, while his dad first has to discover how the phone opens and where its screens are.

The video drew comments from viewers who joked about the possibility of the father folding the phone the wrong way.

“I was so scared he was going to try and fold it the wrong way and snap it,” one viewer wrote.

Another commented, “That man will use 0.1% of what that phone is made for.”

A viewer who said they had worked at an Apple Store shared a similar experience with customers. “This is the default behavior with any iPhone when it come to boomers. You would not imagine how often I had to show someone how to properly hold their phone,” the commenter wrote.

“If Steve Jobs were alive, your dad wouldn't have held it the wrong way. He'd have ensured the design was intuitive,” one viewer commented.

Another one simply wrote, “Just buy him a Nokia. He'll get that.”
