2026 Mahindra Thar OG launched at Rs 10.32 lakh: What’s new in the 3-door SUV, features, pics, variants and delivery date

Mahindra & Mahindra launched Thar OG, the latest evolution of its three-door lifestyle SUV, at an introductory price of Rs 10.32 lakh (ex-showroom). Deliveries of the new Thar OG is set to begin from October 11, 2026. Thar OG succeeds the three-door Thar introduced in 2020 and brings upgrades across its platform, suspension, powertrains, off-road capability, design and safety equipment.

The new SUV is built on the M_Glyde 4G platform and gets technologies including DAVINCI Damping, Rear PENTALINK suspension with Watts Link, an Electronic Locking Differential and Electric Power Steering.

Mahindra Thar OG gets new M_Glyde 4G platform

The Thar OG is based on Mahindra's M_Glyde 4G platform, which the company says has higher stiffness than the outgoing model.


The SUV gets a Rear PENTALINK suspension with Watts Link and DAVINCI Damping technology with Frequency Dependent Damping (FDD). According to Mahindra, these changes are aimed at improving ride quality, cornering stability and control.

The new model also gets Electric Power Steering (EPS) and enhanced NVH damping for the cabin.

President, Automotive Business, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., Dr Velusamy R, said the company has focused on improving the three-door Thar's on-road characteristics while retaining its off-road capability.

“With the Thar OG, we have elevated the iconic three-door Thar through significant advances in on-road refinement and off-road capability.”

He said the new model uses changes to the platform and suspension, along with electronic systems.

“Built on the advanced M_Glyde 4G platform, it features technologies such as DAVINCI Damping, Rear PENTALINK suspension with Watts Link, Electronic Locking Differential and Electric Power Steering.”

According to Velusamy, the changes are aimed at improving ride quality, handling and stability.

“Together, these deliver the best ride quality, handling, stability and driving confidence ever offered in a Thar, while preserving the authentic capability and rugged character that enthusiasts cherish.”

Thar OG engine options: More power from petrol and diesel

Mahindra has retained three engine options for the Thar OG.

The G20 TGDi mStallion petrol engine produces 119 kW and 330 Nm, while the D22 mHawk diesel engine develops 111.9 kW and 330 Nm.

The D117 CRDe diesel engine continues to produce 87.2 kW and 300 Nm, with its power and torque figures unchanged.

The petrol and D22 diesel engines therefore get higher power outputs, while the D117 diesel continues with its existing output.

Thar OG gets Electronic Locking Differential and Terrain Modes

The new Thar OG gets an Electronic Locking Differential (ELD), along with three terrain modes: Mud, Sand and Snow.

These modes are designed to adjust vehicle performance according to different surfaces. The ELD is intended to improve traction in situations where wheel slip occurs.

The Thar OG retains the three-door SUV's boxy shape but receives several exterior updates.

It gets a new grille, circular LED headlamps, C-shaped DRLs and LED fog lamps with cornering lamps. The front and rear bumpers have also been redesigned, while the SUV gets a wider track and new R19 alloy wheels.

Inside, the Thar OG features Truffle Brown leatherette upholstery and a soft second-row armrest with a cupholder.

The SUV will be available in two new colours, Artemis Silver and Jeans Blue, in addition to six existing colour options.

Chief Design & Creative Officer, Auto & Farm Sectors, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., Pratap Bose, said the design changes were focused on retaining the existing model's proportions and identity.

“Designing the Thar OG was never about reinventing an icon but making it even more Thar.”

He said the basic design elements of the three-door SUV have been retained.

“Our vision was to preserve its authentic, boxy attitude, strong stance and unmistakable silhouette, while evolving it for a new generation.”

Bose also highlighted the changes to the front-end design and wheels.

“The new grille, classic circular LED headlamps, signature C-shaped DRLs, LED fog lamps and new R19 alloys enhance its purposeful and instantly recognisable presence.”

Thar OG safety features

The Thar OG gets six airbags, including four Head Pelvis Thorax Shoulder (HPTS) airbags for front and rear passenger protection.

The SUV also comes with four disc brakes, ESP 9.3 and front parking sensors.

The safety updates form part of the broader changes introduced with the new three-door model.

Mahindra Thar OG: What has changed

Compared with the three-door Thar launched in 2020, the Thar OG brings changes across several areas. The new M_Glyde 4G platform is accompanied by revised rear suspension, DAVINCI Damping and electric power steering.

The petrol and D22 diesel engines also receive higher power outputs, while the SUV adds an Electronic Locking Differential and terrain modes.

The exterior receives new lighting elements, bumpers and R19 alloy wheels, while the cabin gets updated upholstery and a second-row armrest.

Chief Executive Officer, Automotive Division, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., Nalinikanth Gollagunta, said the latest model is intended to build on the existing three-door SUV.

“The Thar has evolved far beyond being an SUV. It has become an icon that represents freedom, adventure and a way of life for an entire generation of customers.”

He said the model's development has focused on expanding its appeal while retaining its existing characteristics.

“Every new chapter in its journey has expanded its appeal while remaining rooted in the authenticity and capability that have always defined the Thar.”

He said the latest version also focuses on comfort and driving dynamics.
