Jamui Viral Video: A video circulating on social media has drawn attention to an incident involving Class 10 girl who was harassed by a group of people at night along with her male companion. The incident took place in Jamui, Bihar. The video has created outrage across the country over woman saftety in society. After the video went viral, Police in Bihar's Jamui district arrested three persons while a search was on for others allegedly involved in the harassment of a boy and a girl by a roadside.
Jamui SP Bishwajeet Dayal said the incident took place on September 19 evening and a Special Investigation Team, headed by a woman officer, was conducting raids to arrest all the culprits. The videos purportedly show the girl being stopped on the road, subjected to inappropriate physical contact and allegedly dragged by some of the youths.

What does the viral video show?

The footage appears to show a group of people surrounding the couple at a location at night. The woman is seen being confronted by several men, while the man accompanying her appears to be separated from her during the confrontation. At one point, a person whose face is covered appears to move towards the woman and tries to take her away. The woman can be heard screaming and appears to resist. The man also attempts to intervene as the situation escalates.



The two eventually appear to get away from the group. Another video circulating online allegedly shows the same couple on a scooter at a different location. The group appears to confront them again, following which an argument takes place. The couple are later seen apparently pleading with the men before leaving the spot. The sequence of events and what led to the confrontation remain unclear.

Social media users demand police action

The footage has generated a strong reaction online, with users describing the incident as harassment and alleged moral policing. Some posts tagged Bihar Police and Jamui Police while seeking action against those allegedly involved. Bihar Police responded to the circulation of the footage on X. In a reply tagging Jamui Police, the Bihar Police account wrote, “@JamuiPolice Please forward for information and necessary action.” The response confirms that the footage has been brought to the attention of the state police authorities. It does not, however, establish that the incident shown in the video occurred in Jamui.

What Bihar Police is saying about the Class 10 girl harassment in Jamui

Jamui SP Bishwajeet Dayal said the incident took place on September 19 evening. "Although the incident is two days old, no complaint was made before us by the boy or the girl till Sunday. Today, when the video went viral, we traced the victims with the help of the registration number of a vehicle visible in the clip", the SP told reporters.

"An SIT headed by Sub-Divisional Police Officer Deepti Monali has been set up. The accused have not been named by the victims in the FIR lodged at Jamui police station, but we have identified around seven perpetrators with the help of the video clip. Three persons have been arrested, and raids are being conducted to nab the others," Dayal said.

The FIR has been lodged under the POCSO Act and relevant sections of the BNS, and steps have been initiated for the "takedown of the video", the SP said.
