India weather today (September 24): IMD forecasts heavy rain in Odisha, Andhra, Telangana, Chhattisgarh; check state-wise forecast

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) is expecting heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in several parts of India on September 24. Southern states along with Chhattisgarh, Vidarbha and Odisha are likely to experience intense rains. Thunderstorms, lightning, gusty winds and squally conditions are also expected in several regions.

On the other hand, Delhi is not expected to receive any showers as the weather agency has not issued any warning. The rainfall activity may increase in parts of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand later in the week. The IMD’s latest warning shows no alert for Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi on September 24.

Chhattisgarh

According to the IMD, the state is likely to receive heavy rainfall with wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph.

Andhra Pradesh

The Southern state is expected to receive heavy rainfall with with wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph.

In view of the cyclone threat over North Andhra, the Real Time Governance Society (RTGS) at the State Secretariat has been placed on high alert, with continuous monitoring of the cyclone movement, weather conditions and ground-level situation in the affected districts.

As per the Information and Public Relations Department, the RTGS Command Control Centre, in coordination with the AWARE wing, is closely tracking the movement and intensity of the cyclone, rainfall patterns, wind conditions and other weather-related developments in real time. The information is being analysed and disseminated at regular intervals to enable the administration to take timely preventive and response measures.

Department of RTG Secretary Bhaskar Katamneni, IAS, and RTGS CEO Prakhar Jain, IAS, have been reviewing the cyclone situation and the preparedness measures being undertaken in the affected areas.

Odisha

The state may receive heavy showers with wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph.

Telangana

IMD expects the state to receive heavy showers on Thursday.

Bihar

More than 50 lakh people were affected as 576 gram panchayats in 15 districts of Bihar were inundated by floodwaters, with rivers flowing in spate showing no signs of receding.

The authorities were running three community kitchens while 7,714 displaced people were sheltered in six relief camps, the Disaster Management Department said on Wednesday.

Jharkhand

Along with other states, Jharkhand is expected to receive heavy rains, the weather agency said in its daily bulletin.
