India is likely to see widespread rainfall, thunderstorms and strong winds on Thursday, August 13, as the monsoon remains active across several regions. According to the latest India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast, multiple states are expected to receive heavy rain, while isolated areas could witness very heavy rainfall.

The weather outlook comes as the monsoon trough remains active and south of its normal position. A low-pressure area has also formed over the north Bay of Bengal off the West Bengal-Bangladesh coasts and is likely to intensify into a well-marked low-pressure area before potentially concentrating into a depression.

Delhi weather forecast August 13

Delhi and parts of northwest India are likely to see a change in weather conditions over the coming days. IMD has forecast fairly widespread to widespread rainfall over Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi during August 14-15.

For August 13, rainfall activity is expected to increase across parts of northwest India, with isolated heavy rainfall becoming more likely from August 14. Residents should keep an eye on the latest local weather updates, particularly if travelling outdoors.

Heavy rain likely across northwest India

The IMD has forecast fairly widespread to widespread rainfall over Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan and Muzaffarabad until August 18, while Uttarakhand is likely to experience similar rainfall activity from August 13 to 18.

Isolated heavy rainfall is likely over Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh and adjoining regions through August 18. Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand may also experience heavy rain on several days during the forecast period.

East Rajasthan is expected to receive heavy rainfall on August 13-14.

Uttar Pradesh to see heavy rainfall

Rainfall activity is also expected to remain significant over Uttar Pradesh. IMD has forecast widespread rainfall over East Uttar Pradesh from August 14-18, while West Uttar Pradesh could see widespread rainfall on August 15.

Isolated heavy rainfall is likely over East Uttar Pradesh from August 13-18 and over West Uttar Pradesh from August 14-17. Thunderstorms and lightning are also possible over both regions during August 13-14.

Central India remains under rain alert

West Madhya Pradesh is expected to receive fairly widespread to widespread rainfall until August 14, while East Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Vidarbha are likely to experience widespread rainfall until August 18.

Very heavy rainfall is possible over East Madhya Pradesh during August 15-16 and over Chhattisgarh on August 13-14. West Madhya Pradesh could also receive heavy rainfall on August 13 and again during August 16-17.

Vidarbha is expected to receive heavy rainfall during August 13-17, while thunderstorms and lightning are possible from August 13-16.

Odisha and West Bengal face heavy to very heavy rain

Eastern India is also expected to remain wet. IMD has forecast fairly widespread to widespread rainfall over Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, Odisha and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim during different periods between August 13 and 18.

A particularly significant warning has been issued for Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal, where heavy to very heavy rainfall with isolated extremely heavy rainfall is likely on August 13.

Gangetic West Bengal may also experience thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds, with wind speeds reaching 40-50 kmph and gusting to 60 kmph during August 13-14.

Northeast India to remain rainy

Rainfall is expected to remain widespread across Northeast India. Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya, as well as Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura, are likely to receive fairly widespread to widespread rainfall during August 13-18.

Heavy rainfall is likely over Arunachal Pradesh and Assam and Meghalaya from August 13-14. Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura could see heavy rainfall during August 13-18.

The IMD has also warned of isolated very heavy rainfall over Arunachal Pradesh and Assam and Meghalaya during August 15-18.

Maharashtra and Gujarat to see heavy rain

Western India is also likely to experience significant rainfall on August 13. Fairly widespread to widespread rainfall is forecast over Konkan and Goa from August 13-18, while Madhya Maharashtra is expected to receive widespread rainfall from August 13-14.

Heavy rainfall is likely over Konkan and Goa from August 13-15 and over Madhya Maharashtra on August 13 and during August 15-16.

Gujarat Region is expected to receive heavy rainfall on August 13, with thunderstorms and lightning also possible.

Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu weather forecast

Several parts of South India are also likely to remain under active monsoon conditions.

Coastal Karnataka and Kerala and Mahe are expected to receive fairly widespread to widespread rainfall during August 13-18. North Interior Karnataka is likely to experience widespread rainfall on August 13.

Heavy rainfall is likely over Coastal Karnataka and South Interior Karnataka on August 13, while Kerala and Mahe may receive heavy rain on August 13-14.

Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal are also likely to experience heavy rainfall from August 13-14.

Thunderstorms and strong winds likely in South India

Thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds are expected across several southern states.

North and South Interior Karnataka could experience gusty winds with speeds reaching 40-50 kmph and gusting to 60 kmph on August 13. Similar conditions are possible over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal through August 16.

Strong surface winds are also likely over Coastal Karnataka, North Interior Karnataka and South Interior Karnataka on August 13.

Low-pressure area over Bay of Bengal may intensify

A key weather system influencing India's monsoon conditions is the low-pressure area over the north Bay of Bengal off the West Bengal-Bangladesh coasts.

According to the IMD, the system is likely to become a well-marked low-pressure area within the next 12 hours. It may subsequently concentrate into a depression and move northwestwards across West Bengal and adjoining Bangladesh coasts during the following 24 hours.

The system is expected to contribute to rainfall activity over parts of eastern and central India.

Fishermen advised to avoid rough sea areas

The IMD has also issued warnings for fishermen in several marine areas.

In the Bay of Bengal, fishermen have been advised to avoid areas along and off the West Bengal and Odisha coasts, parts of the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining northeast Bay of Bengal until August 15. Warnings also cover parts of the Bay of Bengal near the Andhra Pradesh coast and the Andaman Sea.

In the Arabian Sea, warnings remain in place for several areas along and off the Somalia and Oman coasts and parts of the westcentral and southwest Arabian Sea.
