Good Will Hunting actor and comedian Robin Williams once had a waterfront home in Paradise Cay, a scenic community on California’s Tiburon Peninsula. The property, located in Marin County north of San Francisco, was known for its bay views, spacious interiors and luxury amenities. The house features 6 bedrooms and 6.5 bathrooms and an outdoor area features a pool and spa. The living room of the house is one of the most talked about space from the house.

Williams purchased the approximately 6,500-square-foot residence in 2008 for around $4 million. After his death in 2014, the home was eventually listed for $7.25 million and sold for $5.35 million in 2020.

A Waterfront Home In Paradise Cay

The property was located in Paradise Cay, a waterfront community known for its views of the San Francisco Bay and its residential setting. According to property coverage by the Los Angeles Times and Architectural Digest, the home featured Santa Barbara-style architecture and was designed around its waterfront surroundings.


The single-storey residence included six bedrooms and 6.5 bathrooms, along with spacious living areas and outdoor spaces.

The home featured several traditional design elements, including fireplaces, wood-panelled spaces and French doors that connected the indoor areas with the outdoors. The living room included multiple sitting areas and a fireplace, while a formal dining room provided space for entertaining guests.

Other notable spaces included a tiled kitchen and a wood-panelled library with built-in shelving and another fireplace. The primary suite reportedly featured a spa bathroom and steam shower.

Pool, Spa And Outdoor Entertaining Areas

The property's outdoor spaces were another major feature. The home included a large deck, swimming pool, spa and dining patio.

Its location beside the bay meant that the outdoor areas offered views of the surrounding water and landscape, adding to the property's appeal.

Bought For About $4 Million, Sold For $5.35 Million

Williams acquired the home through a trust in 2008. Reports have placed the purchase price at just over $4 million, with Architectural Digest reporting it at approximately $4.05 million.

Following his death in August 2014, the property remained associated with his family's real estate holdings. It was later listed for $7.25 million in 2019.

The home remained on the market for about a year before being sold in 2020. The Los Angeles Times reported on November 17, 2020, that the property had sold for $5.35 million. The final sale price was therefore $1.9 million below the original asking price.

Robin Williams’ Long Connection To The Bay Area

Williams had deep ties to the San Francisco Bay Area. His family moved to Marin County, where he attended Redwood High School in Larkspur. He later studied theatre at the College of Marin before attending Juilliard School in New York.

His stand-up career also developed in San Francisco, where he performed at venues including the Holy City Zoo.

Williams rose to fame after playing Mork on Happy Days, a role that led to the hit series Mork & Mindy. He later became one of Hollywood’s best-known actors and comedians, starring in films such as Good Morning, Vietnam, Dead Poets Society, Mrs Doubtfire, Jumanji and Good Will Hunting.

He won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for Good Will Hunting in 1997.

The Paradise Cay property was separate from his San Francisco Sea Cliff mansion, another home associated with the actor's real estate history.

Robin Williams’ Death

Robin Williams died by suicide on August 11, 2014, at the age of 63. In the years before his death, he had spoken publicly about struggles with alcohol addiction. He had also been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease, while a post-mortem examination found diffuse Lewy body dementia.

Williams was married three times. He married Valerie Velardi in 1978, Marsha Garces in 1989 and Susan Schneider in 2011. His first two marriages ended in divorce. His wife, Susan Schneider, said that Williams had maintained his sobriety at the time of his death.
