A lottery winner from Kentucky has been taken into custody for the fourth time, now facing charges related to domestic violence. James Farthing, a 51-year-old resident of Georgetown, Kentucky, was arrested on Sunday, July 26. He has been charged with first-degree strangulation (domestic violence–related) and fourth-degree assault involving minor injury. According to jail records reviewed by PEOPLE, Farthing is currently being held at the Scott County Jail.

Background: Record Powerball Win

Earlier this year in April, Farthing made headlines after winning a $167.3 million Powerball jackpot, the largest in Kentucky’s history, as reported by WHAS. At the time, he said he planned to share the winnings with his mother, Linda Grizzle. “It’s going to be a good Mother’s Day,” Grizzle told the outlet at the time. “This is going to pay off my debt.”

Details of the Incident

According to reports, the alleged victim, whose identity has not been disclosed, told police that an argument broke out between her and Farthing after a boating trip. Authorities allege that Farthing “put[ing] both his hands on her neck, which restricted her breathing.” The incident reportedly took place on Cynthiana Road.

Court Appearance and Legal Conditions

Farthing appeared in court on Tuesday, July 28, as reported by NBC affiliate LEX News. He entered a not guilty plea, and his bond was set at $15,000. The court has also ordered him to have no contact with the alleged victim and to wear a “monitoring device” that alerts authorities if he violates this condition, according to the PEOPLE.
