Delhi-NCR weather today: Will there be a sudden rainfall in Delhi, Noida, Gurugram, Ghaziabad and Faridabad on September 25? check IMD forecast

Delhi woke up to a cloudy sky and a noticeable dip in temperature on September 25, days after the southwest monsoon made an early exit from the capital. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has now forecast rain, thunderstorms and strong winds across the National Capital Region over the next few days, even as the region moves into its post monsoon phase.

According to the IMD, the monsoon withdrew from Delhi on September 23, two days ahead of its normal withdrawal date of September 25. A fresh weather system is now expected to bring rain to Delhi, Noida, Gurugram, Ghaziabad and Faridabad over the coming days, with the IMD also flagging minor traffic disruption and waterlogging risk in low lying areas.

Why is it suddenly cold in Delhi NCR today


The drop in temperature comes right after the monsoon's withdrawal, with minimum temperatures across parts of Delhi running appreciably below normal, in the range of 3.1°C to 5.0°C lower than usual at isolated places. The IMD bulletin also notes a trough in the middle level westerlies, called a Western Disturbance, sitting north of the region, along with the monsoon withdrawal line passing close to Delhi. This combination has brought cloud cover, southeasterly winds of 20 to 25 kmph and higher humidity, all of which are keeping daytime temperatures lower than the sharp late September heat the city usually sees. The IMD expects no big change in maximum temperature over the next 24 hours, followed by a further fall of 3 to 4°C after that.

Delhi weather today and forecast for the week

Safdarjung, Delhi's base station, recorded a maximum temperature of 33.0°C and a minimum of 24.2°C on September 25, both close to normal. The city has received 728.6 mm of rainfall since June 1, which is 16% above the normal figure of 629.7 mm for the period, falling under the IMD's normal rainfall category. For September 25, the IMD forecast is generally cloudy skies with very light rain or drizzle at isolated places towards night, along with wind gusts touching 40 kmph. From September 26, light to moderate rain is expected at most places, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and winds gusting up to 50 kmph, continuing with lighter spells through September 27 and 28 before skies clear from September 29 onward.

Noida weather today, rain and temperature update

Noida, recorded under the Kvk Chholas station, logged a maximum temperature of 32.2°C, running 2.1°C below normal, and a minimum of 23.3°C, 0.7°C below normal, with no rainfall recorded in the past 24 hours. Noida falls under the same regional forecast as the rest of the NCR, which means light to moderate rain and thunderstorms are likely from September 26, tapering off into a dry, clear spell by the end of the month.

Gurugram weather today, temperature and rain forecast

Gurgaon, tracked at the KVK station, saw a maximum temperature of 31.4°C, which is 4.4°C below normal, making it one of the cooler spots in the region, along with a minimum of 23.3°C, also below normal by 1.1°C. No rain was recorded here in the past 24 hours. Like the rest of Delhi NCR, Gurugram is expected to see thunderstorm activity and strong winds from September 26, with rain gradually easing off by September 28.

Ghaziabad weather today, rain and temperature outlook

Ghaziabad recorded the highest maximum temperature among NCR stations at 33.7°C, still 2.9°C below normal, along with a minimum of 24.0°C, marginally above normal. No rainfall was recorded in the past 24 hours here either. The region is likely to see the same spell of rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds forecast for the rest of Delhi NCR between September 26 and 28.

Faridabad weather today, temperature and forecast

Faridabad saw one of the sharpest departures from normal among NCR stations, with a maximum temperature of 32.3°C running 4.4°C below normal, and a minimum of 24.6°C that was 1.8°C below normal. No rain was recorded here in the past 24 hours. Faridabad too falls in the path of the rain and thunderstorm activity expected from September 26, before conditions turn dry and clear towards the end of the month.

What IMD has advised for Delhi NCR residents

The IMD's impact based advisory for September 26 warns of minor traffic disruption, a higher chance of vehicle accidents, and water accumulation in low lying areas and on roads. It has asked commuters to check for traffic congestion before leaving home, follow any traffic advisories issued during the spell, and avoid areas that are prone to frequent waterlogging.
