Delhi-NCR weather: Late-night rain and thunderstorms bring temperatures down; check IMD forecast for October 25.

Delhi-NCR witnessed a sudden change in weather late Saturday night as rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds swept across the region, bringing cooler conditions and hail in parts of Delhi and Noida. Showers were also reported in Ghaziabad, Gurugram and Faridabad.

The spell brought relief from relatively warmer conditions across the national capital and neighbouring areas. Delhi's air quality also showed an improvement, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) standing at 191 on Saturday, compared with 230 a day earlier. However, the improvement in AQI does not establish how much of the change, if any, was caused by the rain.

Delhi weather today: Will it rain again on October 25?

Delhi is likely to remain dry on Sunday, October 25, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast. Haryana, Chandigarh and Noida are also expected to experience dry weather.

The forecast comes after late-night showers and thunderstorms brought a marked change in conditions across Delhi-NCR. The spell was accompanied by strong winds, with hail reported in parts of Delhi and Noida.

The wider weather situation across northern and central India remains unsettled, with the IMD forecasting rainfall, thunderstorms and gusty winds in several parts of the country.

Delhi AQI improves from 230 to 191

Delhi's AQI stood at 191 on Saturday, improving from 230 a day earlier. The readings indicate a decline in the level of air pollution, although the city continues to face air-quality concerns.

Rain and gusty winds can influence pollution levels by helping remove some pollutants from the air or dispersing them. However, the extent and duration of any improvement depend on several factors, including wind conditions and the sources of pollution.

The latest readings offer a snapshot of the change in Delhi's air quality rather than a guarantee that pollution levels will continue to fall.

Tamil Nadu weather update: IMD warns of heavy rain in Tamil Nadu and Kerala

While Delhi is forecast to remain dry on Sunday, several southern states are expected to receive heavy rainfall.

The IMD has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall, with isolated extremely heavy downpours, over Kerala and Mahe, as well as Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal.

Andhra Pradesh weather today: Possible cyclone impact

IMD has forecast the development of a weather system over the Bay of Bengal that could intensify into a cyclonic storm on October 26 and move towards the Andhra Pradesh coast by the morning of October 28.

Odisha has stepped up preparations for the system, identified in the supplied forecast as cyclone Arnab. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said on Saturday that the state government had reviewed the possible impact and assigned responsibilities to different departments, with a target of zero casualties.

The forecast also points to the possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall in north coastal Andhra Pradesh on October 27, with isolated extremely heavy rainfall possible as the system approaches the coast.

Rain and strong winds expected across eastern India

The developing Bay of Bengal system could also affect parts of eastern and central India in the coming days.

IMD has forecast light to moderate rainfall in Kolkata, with squally winds possible in coastal areas of West Bengal. Isolated heavy rainfall is likely in some districts between October 28 and 30.

Parts of Bihar, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh may also receive isolated heavy rainfall on October 28 and 29.

Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds are expected in several regions, including the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, east Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal. Gusty winds are also forecast in parts of Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Mahe and Lakshadweep.

IMD has warned of squally weather over parts of the Bay of Bengal and around the Andaman Islands, with wind speeds of 50-60 kmph and gusts reaching 70 kmph in some areas.
