India climbed to eighth position in the Commonwealth Games 2026 medal standings after Day 5, with its medal tally rising to 12. The country has won two gold, seven silver and three bronze medals so far, with weightlifting, athletics and para athletics driving the campaign.

The latest additions to India's tally came from Harjinder Kaur, who secured silver in the women's 69kg weightlifting category, and Gulveer Singh, who won silver in the men's 10,000m event, becoming the first Indian to finish on the podium in the discipline at the Commonwealth Games. Earlier, Sarvesh Kushare, Valluri Ajaya Babu, Sharmila Dhankar and Shilpa Shyla also contributed medals to India's tally.

Weightlifting powers India's campaign

Weightlifting remained India's strongest discipline at the Games.

Gyaneshwari Yadav clinched silver in the women's 53kg competition with a combined lift of 199kg, comprising 88kg in the snatch and 111kg in the clean and jerk. Bindyarani Devi also totalled 199kg in the women's 58kg event, lifting 87kg in the snatch and 112kg in the clean and jerk to secure bronze.

Later, Valluri Ajaya Babu added another silver in the men's 79kg category.

Earlier in the Games, Rishikanta Singh won silver in the men's 60kg event, while Raja Muthupandi also claimed a silver medal. Jhandu Kumar had opened India's medal account by winning a medal in the men's heavyweight category with a best lift of 190kg.

Mirabai Chanu scripts history

Olympic medallist Mirabai Chanu produced a record-breaking performance to win her third successive Commonwealth Games gold medal.

She set Games and Commonwealth records with an 85kg snatch, established another Games record by lifting 105kg in the clean and jerk, and dominated the competition to secure the title.

Para athletics and high jump add to medal tally

India also enjoyed success in para athletics, where Sharmila Dhankar became the country's first para athletics gold medallist at the Commonwealth Games by winning the women's shot put F57 event.

Shilpa Shyla secured bronze in the same competition after an Indian protest, while Sarvesh Kushare became the first Indian to win a silver medal in the men's high jump.

Lovlina Borgohain assured of a medal
Boxer Lovlina Borgohain is guaranteed at least a bronze medal after receiving a bye into the women's 75kg semifinals. The medal will be reflected in India's tally once its colour is confirmed.
