India's campaign at the Commonwealth Games 2026 continues on Thursday, July 30, with Olympic and world champion Neeraj Chopra leading the athletics action as he begins his men's javelin throw title challenge in the qualifying round. Several Indian athletes will compete across athletics, weightlifting, cycling and bowls, with multiple medal events scheduled through the day.

Neeraj Chopra begins javelin title quest

Neeraj Chopra will return to Commonwealth Games action in the men's javelin throw qualifying round as he aims to reclaim the title he won at Gold Coast 2018. He missed the Birmingham 2022 edition due to injury.

Yash Vir Singh and Rohit Yadav will also feature alongside Chopra in the qualifying round. The javelin event begins at 2:55 pm IST.

Toor eyes first Commonwealth Games medal

National record holder Tajinderpal Singh Toor will compete in the men's shot put final, aiming to secure his first Commonwealth Games medal. Samardeep Singh Gill will also take part in the event.

Toor, a two-time gold medallist at the Asian Games and Asian Championships, finished eighth at Gold Coast 2018 and missed the Birmingham 2022 Games due to a groin injury.

Parul Chaudhary returns for 5000m final

National record holder Parul Chaudhary will compete in the women's 5000m final as she looks to bounce back after finishing fifth in the women's 3000m steeplechase on Wednesday.

Chaudhary finished nearly 12 seconds outside her personal best in the steeplechase event.

Weightlifters look to add more medals

India's weightlifting campaign will conclude with Birmingham 2022 bronze medallist Lovepreet Singh competing in the men's +110kg final and Martina Devi Maibam featuring in the women's +86kg final.

Indian weightlifters have already won seven medals at Glasgow 2026, including Mirabai Chanu's gold medal.

Cycling events begin for India

Track cycling action begins for India with the men's team sprint quartet of Rojit Singh Yanglem, David Beckham Elkatohchoongo and Ronaldo Singh Laitonjam competing in the qualifying round and possible medal races.

Para cyclist Lisha Das will participate in the women's C4-C5 4000m individual pursuit event.

More athletics events on India's schedule

Tejaswin Shankar will begin his decathlon campaign, while Vishal TK will compete in the men's 400m semi-final.

Animesh Kujur will feature in the men's 200m semi-final after a strong performance in the first round. Nidhi Rani and Seema Punia will compete in the women's discus throw final.
