Chhattisgarh floods: Check roads, rail routes and trains hit by heavy rain

Persistent rainfall across Chhattisgarh has triggered flood-like conditions in several areas, with rising water levels in the Kharun River causing waterlogging in villages across Raipur and Durg districts, reports PTI. Roads have been submerged in multiple locations, water has entered homes in some villages and train operations on the Durg-Dallirajhara section were disrupted on Saturday, September 26.

The road linking Raipur with Patan and Durg through Mahadev Ghat has gone under water following the rise in the river, affecting commuter movement. The Raipur-Bhilai route through the same stretch has also been impacted, with strong water flow across the road making travel difficult.

Several parts of the state have recorded heavy rainfall over the past two to three days, resulting in overflowing rivers and streams, inundation of low-lying areas and disruptions to road connectivity. The Bastar region has also been particularly affected. In view of the rainfall, the state government has declared a school holiday across Chhattisgarh on Saturday.

Kharun River floods roads and villages in Raipur, Durg

The continued rain has pushed up water levels in rivers and other water bodies, creating difficult conditions in areas near the Kharun River.

In Amleshwar and Khudmuda villages of Durg district, significant water accumulation has been reported. Several roads have disappeared under the water, while water has entered a number of houses, adding to difficulties for residents.

The rising river level has also submerged the road connecting Raipur to Patan and Durg via Mahadev Ghat. The same route used for travel between Raipur and Bhilai has been affected by waterlogging and the force of the flowing water.

Durg-Dallirajhara rail section hit by track subsidence

Rail services were affected in the Durg-Dallirajhara section after heavy rain caused waterlogging and track subsidence between Latabor and Gunderdehi stations, railway officials said.

As a precautionary step, some trains were cancelled while others were short-terminated. The affected section comes under the Raipur division of South East Central Railway.

Divisional Railway Manager Dayanand inspected the affected stretch to assess the situation. A team from the railway engineering department has also been deployed to undertake restoration work, an official said.

Several trains cancelled or short-terminated

Train number 78816, Antagarh-Raipur, will remain cancelled between Dallirajhara and Raipur. Train number 78815, Raipur-Antagarh, was cancelled on Saturday.

Train number 78818, Antagarh-Durg, was short-originated from Dallirajhara on September 26 and will remain cancelled between Dallirajhara and Durg.

Train numbers 68765, Tadoki-Raipur, and 68764, Raipur-Tadoki, were also cancelled on Saturday, according to the railway official.

Heavy rain brings widespread disruption across state

The latest disruption follows heavy rainfall recorded across Chhattisgarh over the past several days. Rivers and streams have swelled, low-lying areas have been inundated and road links have been affected in different parts of the state.

The Bastar region has experienced particularly difficult conditions, with the rainfall contributing to flood-like situations in several locations.

With schools also closed across Chhattisgarh on Saturday, authorities and residents are dealing with the wider impact of the continuing rain on transport, homes and everyday activity.
