Casio G-Shock GMC-2500 gets magnetic minute hand
The new G-Shock watches feature a mechanism called the Shock Release Hand. The minute hand is attached magnetically rather than being fixed rigidly to its shaft, helping it withstand the force of an impact. Casio says the hand may shake or move temporarily after a hard knock, but should return to its correct position within a few minutes. The watches also have a hand-shift function that moves the hands away from the dial when they obstruct the display.
Casio G-Shock GMC-2500: Five models with different colours and straps
The Casio GMC-2500 range includes two models with stainless-steel bracelets and three with resin bands. The GMC-2500D-1A comes with a black dial, while the GMC-2500D-1A2 has a blue dial. Both feature stainless-steel cases and bracelets.
The resin-band options include the black-dial GMC-2500-1A, the silver-dial GMC-2500-1A8 and the gold GMC-2500G-9A, which gets a gold ion-plated bezel.
The watches take design inspiration from the DW-5000C, the original G-Shock launched in 1983, but use a rounded case and an analogue display.
Casio G-Shock GMC-2500: Date display, stopwatch and battery life
The GMC-2500 watches feature a three-cell window at the 3 o'clock position. It displays the date during regular use and can show stopwatch minutes or setting information when other functions are activated. The full auto-calendar works through 2099 once the date is set. The watches also include a stopwatch that measures time in one-second increments, up to 29 minutes and 59 seconds.
A small seconds hand at the 9 o'clock position can be stopped when not required. Casio says this function helps save power, with the CR1025 battery rated to last around two years.
Unlike some other metal G-Shock models, the GMC-2500 series does not offer Tough Solar charging or Bluetooth connectivity.
