Bittu Tabahi cleans Delhi's Yamuna after Ajnar River in Madhya Pradesh: 585 kg waste cleared in 4.5 hours; watch video

Bittu Tabahi popularly known as Surendra Singh Choudhary, a young man began his cleanliness drive from a polluted Ajnar River in Madhya Pradesh. His next stop became Delhi to clean the Yamuna River.

In a video shared on his Instagram on September 21, Bittu Tabahi spoke about his first cleanup drive in Delhi to clean Yamuna River and said that 585 kg of waste was collected during the drive.

Bittu Tabahi’s Cleanliness Mission

Choudhary first gained attention on social media for posting videos of his efforts to clean the Ajnar River in Madhya Pradesh. His work later grabbed the attention of Boyan Slat, founder and CEO of The Ocean Cleanup, who invited him to work with the organisation.

As part of his wider campaign, Choudhary said he wanted to travel to different states and encourage people to take greater responsibility for keeping public spaces clean.

“As you all know, I had undertaken a mission to travel to different states and spread awareness about cleanliness. I really wanted to come to Delhi to clean up the Yamuna River. My video reached Philip Morris, and he provided immense support for this initiative; he organized a cleanup drive for today, Sunday, the 20th, and has been a huge help to me.”

585 Kg Waste Removed From Yamuna Riverbank

The Delhi cleanup drive was organised as part of World Cleanup Day activities and was held along the banks of the Yamuna. Choudhary said the area had accumulated different types of waste, including plastic, flower garlands, religious offerings and idols.

Locals and volunteers also joined this drive of cleaning Yamuna River and helped clear the polluted stretch of the riverbank.

“Today, the 20th, is World Cleanup Day, so we are conducting cleanup activities over a three-day period. I am here on the banks of the Yamuna; there is a lot of trash, along with items like idols of deities, and today we are going to clean it all up,” he said in the video.

After around four and a half hours of work, Choudhary said the team had collected 585 kg of waste during its first cleanup drive in Delhi.

Sharing details of the initiative on Instagram, he wrote, “September 20th, World Cleanup Day. Four and a half hours of cleaning along the banks of the Yamuna, and together we removed 585 kg of waste.”

He also thanked the locals and volunteers who participated in the drive and helped clean the riverbank.

Gurugram Was His Next Stop

Choudhary’s cleanup campaign will now move beyond Delhi. He thanked Philip Morris for supporting the initiative and announced that the next drive would be held in Gurugram’s Kherki Daula.
