Why the bank employees are on strike between September 28 to 30?
The United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) has called a three-day nationwide strike from September 28 to September 30, 2026. The unions, which claims to represent 90 per cent of the banking workforce, are seeking implementation of a five-day banking week. The government has appealed to bank employees and unions to refrain from going on strike and has said discussions on outstanding issues is continuing. The proposed strike follows a one-day strike held on September 11. The government has also recorded that an indefinite strike has been proposed from October 26 over the five-day workweek demand. Will private employees also get salary on the September 25?
Not necessarily. The Finance Ministry's advance-payment decision concerns Central Government employees, industrial employees covered by the order and Central Government pensioners. It does not mean every private company, state government department or other organisation has to credit September salaries on September 25.For private-sector employees, the actual salary date will depend on the employer's payroll schedule and the arrangements made with its bank. So, if a company normally credits salaries on the last working day of the month, employees should not assume that the money will necessarily arrive on September 25 simply because of the bank strike. Further, salaries are credited through an online facility, which is not likely to get affected due to strike.
Banks to remain open on Sunday, September 27
There is also a special arrangement for September 27. The Ministry of Finance and RBI said Public Sector Banks and Regional Rural Banks will operate normally on Sunday, September 27, ahead of the proposed strike. The Reserve Bank of India has approved the operation of bank branches, offices, ATM-link branches and currency chests on that day. This is intended to give customers another opportunity to complete essential banking work before the proposed strike begins.Bank strike: Things salaried employees should note before September 28
