Five killed, 41 missing after Indonesian ferry blaze: Authorities

At least five people were killed and 41 remained missing after a ferry caught fire off Indonesia's Madura Island on Sunday, according to the country's search and rescue agency.

The captain reported the fire as the vessel sailed from Indonesia's second-largest city, Surabaya in East Java, to Makassar in South Sulawesi, according to Basarnas, the National Search and Rescue Agency.

The agency said in a statement that rescue operations were underway to trace the missing passengers and crew following the incident.
