Meta unveils its ‘most advanced device yet’: VR Glasses priced at $1,300, launching in Spring 2027

Meta has announced Meta VR Glasses, which the company calls “our most advanced device yet,” with a spring 2027 launch date and a price of $1,299.99. Powered by Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon Reality Elite processor, the glasses will weigh about 100 grams.

The glasses are about five times lighter than the Meta Quest 3 because Meta has split the hardware into a ‘two-part system,’ the company wrote in a blog post on Wednesday, September 23. The glasses contain the display and sensors, while a separate puck handles computing, storage and the battery. The puck connects to the glasses through an optical tether and can clip onto a pocket or bag.




The device has a 5K Infinite Display, built on micro-OLED panels, with 37 pixels per degree. The specs say that the glasses will also feature Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. As per Meta, one is able to watch movies while at the same time being aware of their surroundings owing to open sides and passthrough cameras.

The Mark Zuckerberg led company says they can provide a “cinema, courtside seat, workspace, and console” in one device.

The glasses will support services including Disney+, Prime Video, YouTube, ESPN, NBA and MLB. Meta is also working with Disney on 3D movies and immersive environments.

For gaming, Meta says more than 75 games will support hand-gesture controls at launch. Users will also have access to the wider Meta Quest catalog and can connect Touch Plus controllers or Bluetooth gamepads.

Meta AI will be built directly into the glasses, from which users can control apps and search using voice, eye movements and hand gestures.

Meta is also introducing hologram-based video calls. “When you see someone's hologram in Meta VR Glasses, they appear in front of you with spatial audio placing their voice where they are, so it feels like you're right across from them,” they explained. If others join a call from a mobile phone or computer, they see your hologram on their screens.
