Jimmy Fallon turns Donald Trump’s airport welcome for Xi Jinping into an ‘Uber Trump’ ad, calls him 'perfect Uber driver'

Comedian Jimmy Fallon has taken a jibe at US President Donald Trump as he went to welcome and pick up Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping from Base Andrews in Maryland on Wednesday night. He turned the personal welcome by the US President into a satirical ad for ‘Uber Trump’.

In last night's episode of the Tonight’s show, Fallon focused on the part where Trump along with the First Lady went to welcome the Chinese supremo. He started with, ‘Earlier today, Xi Jinping arrived in Washington, and in a break from tradition, Trump actually picked him up from the airport. That's true. Yeah, Trump did an airport pickup. I might explain this with an ad."

After which the video changed to a spoof ad of the US President running a transportation service named ‘Uber Trump’.


"When do you need an airport ride? Forget Uber X and Uber Black. Just order Uber Trump. You might be wondering, isn't the president busy with more important things?" the voiceover narrated, cutting to a Trump clip at a rally saying: "Not even a little bit."


"In fact, he's the perfect Uber driver," the ad continued mocking Donald Trump.

The mock advertisement continued with carefully selected photos and visuals of the US President showing his love for Tesla and the background voice runs as, "He's got an electric car”.

The ad also listed the supposed benefits of the commander in chief picking you up from the airport and driving your destination. The footage continues and now focuses on the increased gas prices, the narrator says, “All you have to do is cover the price of gas,"

Chinese President receives a grand welcome from the US President

Xi Jinping, the leader of the Chinese Communist Part, along with Peng Liyuan, the First lady of China arrived at 17:39 local time (22:39 BST) in his Air China plane and was welcomed with a grand gesture. The colour and honour guard marched up to the aircraft and stood on both sides of the red carpet as two limos pulled up.


The Chinese couple exited their plane and met the US President and First Lady. Both shook hand and spoke briefly and posed for photos on the red carpet.

The Army Air Force Band played the national anthem as two B-1s flew over them and after exchanging pleasantries, the two couples departed in separate vehicles to Washington.

This is the first time a US president has welcomed a foreign leader at Joint Base Andrews in 11 years, when President Barack Obama welcomed Pope Francis in 2015, according to C-SPAN, which tracks presidential events.
