Connecticut Shocker: Mother found dead inside home after 3-year-old daughter was seen wandering alone in neighborhood, probe on

A Connecticut woman was found dead inside a home on Friday (September 25, 2026) after police responded to reports of an unaccompanied 3-year-old girl wandering in the neighborhood. The incident came to light after authorities were alerted about the child wandering in the area of Poplar Street at around 11 a.m., CT Post reported. The identity of the deceased woman was not revealed.

After the child was found, authorities said she showed no “signs of abuse or neglect,” the Waterbury Police Department (WPD) said, the local news outlet reported, citing a police news release. Police carried out a follow-up investigation at a home on Alder Street in an attempt to contact the child’s mother, and after officers entered the address, they found the woman dead inside.

She was discovered unresponsive. Emergency services pronounced her dead at the scene. She “showed signs of being deceased for a period of time,” WPD Sgt. Joseph Morais said, according to CT Post. There were no obvious signs of foul play, WFSB and NBC Connecticut reported. The investigation into the incident remains ongoing.


In a separate incident that occurred on September 23, 2026, officers of the Waterbury Police Department’s Vice and Intelligence unit conducted proactive patrols near Rye Street after receiving numerous complaints from community members linked to the suspected narcotic activity and quality-of-life concerns, the police department said in a Facebook post.

Police carried out a traffic stop after they observed a vehicle carrying a misused license plate. Officers contacted driver Marcos Ruiz, 29, and passenger Greg Ventura, 30, both of Waterbury. A search was conducted, and police found arms and ammunition, including a Glock 22 handgun and a 27-round high-capacity magazine. The search led to the arrest of Ruiz and Ventura, and both of them were convicted felons and are prohibited from possessing firearms and ammunition.
