"It's less and less family time...": Melania Trump hints at changing relationship with her 20-year-old son Barron

US First Lady Melania Trump has offered a rare glimpse into her relationship with her 20-year-old son Barron Trump. The statements made by Melania Trump appeared to hint at growing tensions between her and Barron, reports suggest. She stated that family time has become less frequent as both of them remain busy with their own lives.

The First Lady made the comments during an appearance on Fox Business’ The Big Money Show, where co-host Taylor Riggs asked her about balancing her work, family responsibilities and time with her 20-year-old son. She confessed that she does not much time to see her husband, President Donald Trump, or son, Barron, as much as she'd like to. Her remarks have drawn attention because Melania Trump has generally kept details about her family life private.

Melania Trump also seemed to suggest that Barron, who is currently studying at New York University, doesn't want to spend as much time with her anymore. "You are so busy and you're such an inspiration to young moms out there who are trying to do it all – [you] run businesses, charities, organize state dinners, run a family," Riggs said.

"Do you still try to get your family together for Sunday night dinners or try to see Barron when you can? What are pieces of advice for moms who feel like they’re so stretched thin, trying to do it all, but at the end of the day just want maybe a dinner at night with their family?" she asked Melania Trump.

To this, Melania responded that her best piece of advice is to 'schedule' time for family in advance. "It’s good to schedule, it’s always good because everybody’s so busy," she explained.

"My husband is working – sometimes he’s in the Oval Office until 9.30 at night, so do you wait [until then to] have dinner? You don’t. He’s busy, I’m busy too," she said. "It’s less and less family time, [and there's] suffering because of it. But that’s okay. We are here to work, to do a good job, and that’s what matters."

"Barron is already a young man, so sometimes he’s maybe even happy that I just want to do my stuff. And that’s okay," she added.

Barron Trump is currently 20 and has been attending New York University. Reports cited by the Daily Beast say he began his junior year after previously attending NYU’s Washington, D.C., academic center. Recently, Barron Trump captured the attention of Iranian regime hardliners who recently released a video titled 'Where to kill Barron Trump' that claimed to track his movements and put a $10million bounty on his head.

He was also reportedly shaken by the September 2025 assassination of conservative activist and friend Charlie Kirk. "This is what happens when you go out there. This is what happened," Barron told Trump while breaking the news of Kirk's death.

Barron's last public appearance was at the FIFA World Cup 2026 final match between Spain and Argentina in New Jersey in July. He also attended the UFC Freedom 250 fights on the South Lawn of the White House in June.

Last month, reports said Barron had become more private and withdrawn. This was reportedly linked to the political violence surrounding his father. “He doesn't go out,” a longtime Trumpworld figure told The Post. Another source described Barron as “pretty reclusive.” Despite Melania’s recent comments, reports said Barron spent much of the summer with his mother at Trump National Golf Club Bedminster in New Jersey.
