US Army tests 'Hammer of the Gods' to blind its rivals. Here's what it is and what it can do

The U.S. Army has successfully tested a new electronic warfare system called "Hammer of the Gods." The maritime version of the counter-positioning, navigation and timing (counter-PNT) system was tested off the U.S. West Coast in mid-July during the Project Convergence Capstone 6 (PC-C6) experiment, according to a Fox News report.

The successful trial follows two years of land-based demonstrations and marks a significant milestone in the Army's efforts to strengthen its electronic warfare capabilities.

What is 'Hammer of the Gods' and how does it work?

"Hammer of the Gods" is a portable electronic warfare system designed to disrupt GPS and other positioning, navigation and timing (PNT) signals used by enemy precision-guided weapons while ensuring friendly troops remain connected in contested environments.


By interfering with these signals, the system can significantly reduce the accuracy of long-range guided artillery, guided missiles, cruise missiles, drones and other GPS-dependent precision weapons.

Without reliable positioning, navigation and timing data, these weapons are more likely to miss their intended targets or experience mission delays.

Keeps friendly forces connected

In addition to disrupting enemy navigation, the system creates a resilient communications network for U.S. and allied forces operating in electronically contested environments.

According to the report, the network links military devices together, allowing troops to continue to "shoot, move and communicate" even when adversaries attempt to jam communications.

U.S. Army officials told AOL that the PC-C6 experiment successfully demonstrated the launch, operation and recovery of the counter-PNT system under real-world maritime conditions.

Why the system matters

Modern precision-guided weapons rely heavily on GPS and other PNT signals for accurate targeting. By denying access to these signals, "Hammer of the Gods" is designed to reduce the effectiveness of enemy missiles, artillery and drones.

The Army says the technology is part of a broader effort to develop advanced electronic warfare systems that can both degrade an adversary's precision-strike capability and maintain reliable communications for friendly forces.
