Taylor Ward becomes Mariners' latest addition before MLB trade deadline

The Seattle Mariners have boosted their offense by acquiring veteran outfielder Taylor Ward from the Baltimore Orioles in one of the latest moves ahead of the MLB trade deadline.

In return, Baltimore receives three pitching prospects as both clubs continue reshaping their rosters for the remainder of the season and beyond.

Mariners add experienced bat to outfield

Seattle targeted offensive consistency by bringing in the 32-year-old Ward, who has been one of the American League's most disciplined hitters this season.


Ward enters his new chapter leading the AL with 87 walks, while batting .246 with seven home runs and 30 RBIs in 111 games. His ability to reach base and work deep counts is expected to provide additional support for the Mariners' lineup as they push for a postseason berth.

The veteran also brings considerable experience, having appeared in more than 800 Major League games during his career.

Proven track record at the plate

Across his MLB career, Ward owns a .247 batting average, along with 120 home runs and 375 RBIs.

He spent the majority of his career with the Los Angeles Angels before being traded to the Orioles last offseason. After spending part of the year in Baltimore, Ward now heads to Seattle, where the Mariners hope his experience and plate discipline will strengthen their offense during the playoff race.

Orioles receive three pitchers in return

Baltimore's return package focuses on pitching depth and long-term development.

The Orioles acquired right-handers Alex Hoppe, Brock Moore, and Harrison Kreiling from Seattle as part of the deal.

Hoppe has already reached the Major Leagues, making his debut earlier this season. The reliever has appeared in 24 games, posting a 5.79 ERA while gaining valuable experience out of Seattle's bullpen.

Young prospects join Baltimore's farm system

The other two pitchers remain in the minor leagues but are viewed as developmental prospects.

Moore has spent the season between High-A Everett and Double-A Arkansas, compiling a 3.72 ERA with four saves in 31 appearances.

Meanwhile, Kreiling has impressed in limited action, recording a 1.69 ERA across four starts while progressing through rookie-level and Class-A competition.

The additions provide Baltimore with extra pitching depth as the organization continues building for future seasons.

Mariners continue playoff push

The acquisition of Ward reflects Seattle's determination to improve its roster before the trade deadline.

With competition tightening across the American League, the Mariners have prioritized adding an experienced hitter capable of getting on base consistently, while the Orioles strengthen their pipeline with three arms they hope can contribute in the years ahead.
