“We have fully restored service for all customers and sincerely apologize for the difficulties to those who experienced network impacts today,” the wireless carrier said in a post on X (formerly Twitter), adding, “At @TMobile, we know that customers rely on us to stay connected to what matters most, and we appreciate their understanding as we prioritised resolution.”
What does 'SOS' or 'SOS Only' mean on your phone?
Many users affected by the outage reported seeing "SOS" or "SOS Only" displayed on their smartphones. This message appears when a phone loses its connection to its regular cellular network but can still make emergency calls. As the disruption spread, T-Mobile acknowledged the issue and said restoring service was its top priority.
"Our teams are actively working on the reports of technical challenges impacting some customers. Any service impacts are in the process of being resolved and are our highest priority. We know how critical it is to stay connected and every available resource is focused on resolving this as quickly as possible," the company said in a statement on X.
The carrier did not immediately explain what caused the outage.
Data from Downdetector showed that most complaints were related to mobile phone service, complete signal loss, and mobile internet connectivity.
Other major U.S. carriers also saw smaller spikes in outage reports during the same period, with roughly 1,000 reports for Verizon and 850 for AT&T. Such increases often happen when customers on one network try to call people using another carrier that is experiencing technical problems.
