Clint Eastwood has a reputation for letting his actions speak louder than words, and his approach to handling difficult situations on a film set appears to have been no different.

The legendary actor and director’s son, Scott Eastwood, 40, recently recalled a story involving his father and Kevin Costner during an appearance on Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast on Monday, August 3.

Scott Eastwood recalls ‘legendary story’ involving Kevin Costner

The conversation touched on how Clint, now 96, dealt with actors who could be challenging to work with. Scott shared what he described as a “legendary story” from the making of the 1993 film A Perfect World, which starred Costner and Clint, who also directed the movie.

“I’m sort of going to paraphrase it, and I’ll probably tell it a little wrong. But Kevin Costner — sort of going through, maybe, the Kevin Costner rise to fame — and maybe got a big ego,” Scott said. “They were doing A Perfect World. And they’re both starring in this movie. My dad is directing it. Apparently, Kevin wouldn’t come out of his trailer for some reason.”

Clint Eastwood’s no-trailer approach to filmmaking

Scott said his father followed a very different philosophy when it came to working on movie sets. Clint preferred staying around the crew and being directly involved in the filmmaking process rather than retreating to a trailer.

“He always told me, too, as a kid, ‘You want to learn how to make movies? You want to learn how to do this? You stay here with everybody else, and you make the damn movie,’ ” Scott recalled.

Rather than prolonging the confrontation, Clint appeared to take a straightforward approach. According to Scott, his father simply decided, “We’ll just send him home then.”
