Canada Disability Benefit payment not received in September? Here’s what to do if your $150 supplement is missing

The new Canada Disability Benefit supplemental payment has started reaching eligible Canadians, but not everyone who is expecting the extra money will receive it at the same time. The federal government began issuing the one-time $150 Canada Disability Benefit supplement on September 17, 2026. However, the payment is being distributed in phases, meaning some eligible recipients may have to wait until later.

Eligible individuals can receive more than $200 from this federal benefit in September. Also, an extra $150 is now available to Canadians who receive the Canada Disability Benefit. So, if you were expecting the Canada Disability Benefit $150 payment but don't see it in your bank account or mailbox, there are a few important things to check before assuming something has gone wrong.

Canada Disability Benefit $150 payment: Who gets it?

The new $150 supplement is separate from the regular monthly Canada Disability Benefit payment. According to the federal government, people who received a Canada Disability Benefit payment between July 2025 and June 2026 are included in the first group receiving the $150 supplement. Those payments began September 17.

The government says recipients do not need to apply separately for the supplemental payment. The amount is intended to help offset costs associated with obtaining the Disability Tax Credit (DTC), which is required to qualify for the Canada Disability Benefit.

One of the most important details is that not every eligible person is scheduled to receive the $150 supplement in September. If you became eligible for the Canada Disability Benefit after June 2026, your supplemental payment is scheduled for winter 2027.

The same later payment phase applies to people who were approved for a new Disability Tax Credit certificate, including those who were re-certified for the DTC. So if you're eligible but didn't receive the September 17 payment, your payment may simply be scheduled for the next phase.

Check how you normally receive your Canada Disability Benefit

The regular Canada Disability Benefit can be paid in two ways: direct deposit or cheque. If you use direct deposit, check the bank account connected to your Service Canada payments. If you receive payments by cheque, check your mailbox rather than waiting for a bank deposit. The Canada Disability Benefit is normally paid on the third Thursday of each month.

What if your payment should have arrived but hasn't?

If you were part of the first group eligible for the $150 supplement and still haven't received it, you can contact Service Canada to check your file. The Canada Disability Benefit contact number is 1-833-486-3007, with representatives available Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. local time.

You can also submit an eServiceCanada request and ask for a representative to call you back. The government says these callback requests are generally answered within two business days.

What if your regular Canada Disability Benefit payment is missing?

If you're missing your regular Canada Disability Benefit payment rather than the new $150 supplement, check whether your eligibility and payment information are up to date.

The government reviews eligibility each year. Recipients generally don't have to reapply, but they must continue meeting the eligibility requirements, including having an approved Disability Tax Credit and filing their income tax return by April 30.

If your banking information recently changed, Service Canada also advises keeping your old account open until the payment reaches the new account, as changing accounts can take time. If a payment cannot be deposited, Service Canada may mail a cheque instead.

The federal government says that since the first Canada Disability Benefit payments began in July 2025, 335,650 people have received payments totaling more than $813 million. For people waiting for the new $150 supplement, the key point is that a missing September payment does not automatically mean you're no longer eligible.

The timing depends on when you became entitled to the Canada Disability Benefit and, in some cases, when your Disability Tax Credit was approved or renewed. So before assuming your Canada Disability Benefit payment is missing, check which payment phase applies to you.
