The Atlanta Braves have added experienced left-handed reliever Brent Suter in a trade with the Los Angeles Angels, bolstering their bullpen ahead of the MLB trade deadline.

In return, the Angels received infielder Nacho Alvarez Jr., a former top Braves prospect who had already made his Major League debut with Atlanta.

Braves add veteran left-hander to pitching staff

Atlanta turned to experience by acquiring the 36-year-old Suter, who has provided valuable innings for multiple clubs during his Major League career.

This season with the Angels, Suter appeared in 41 games, including three starts, posting a 4.12 ERA. Over 63⅓ innings, he recorded 55 strikeouts while issuing just 17 walks, showcasing the control and versatility that have made him a dependable bullpen option.

The Braves hope Suter's ability to pitch in different roles will provide added depth as they strengthen their roster for the remainder of the season.

Proven MLB experience

Across his career, the veteran southpaw owns a 43-26 record, three saves, and a 3.62 ERA in 389 Major League appearances, including 50 starts.

Before joining the Braves, he spent time with the Milwaukee Brewers, Colorado Rockies, Cincinnati Reds, and most recently the Los Angeles Angels, building a reputation as a reliable arm capable of handling both relief and spot-start duties.

Angels invest in young infield talent

In exchange, the Angels acquired Nacho Alvarez Jr., a 23-year-old infielder viewed as a player with long-term potential.

Alvarez appeared in 66 Major League games for the Braves across the 2024 and 2025 seasons, batting .216 with two home runs and 15 RBIs, primarily playing third base.

At the Triple-A level this season, he was hitting .236 with two home runs and 21 RBIs in 37 games for Gwinnett before the trade.

Originally selected by Atlanta in the fifth round of the 2022 MLB Draft, Alvarez now gets a fresh opportunity with the Angels as the club continues building for the future.

Braves continue deadline moves

The acquisition of Suter reflects Atlanta's focus on strengthening its pitching depth ahead of the postseason race.

As the MLB trade deadline approaches, contenders across both leagues have been actively reinforcing their rosters, and the Braves have now added another experienced arm they hope can contribute during the final stretch of the regular season and into October.
