Apple is expected to launch the iPhone 18 Pro in early September, with Wednesday, September 9, emerging as the likely date. The expected launch timing is based on Apple’s established manufacturing cycles, consumer upgrade patterns and global logistics, reported Forbes.

The September launch window is important for Apple because it allows component suppliers such as TSMC to prepare high-volume production runs well ahead of retail availability. It also gives Apple an opportunity to drive stronger sales in the fourth quarter, while aligning with the annual upgrade cycle followed by many iPhone users.

iPhone 18 Pro launch date: Why Apple is expected to unveil it in September

Producing tens of millions of iPhones for a major launch requires months of planning across Apple's supply chain.

Apple uses custom-designed silicon, meaning its chips cannot simply be sourced from an off-the-shelf catalogue. TSMC, Apple's major chip manufacturing partner, also operates with limited production capacity and needs to plan semiconductor allocations well in advance, reported Forbes.

Apple's predictable annual launch cycle allows TSMC to reserve wafer capacity and plan production volumes for the iPhone range. Any major change to the schedule could complicate chip production and other component supply.

Logistics also play a major role. Apple needs substantial air and cargo capacity to move millions of iPhones from manufacturing facilities to markets around the world. Launching in September gives the company time to distribute new devices before the peak holiday shopping period begins, Forbes.

Expected US prices (rumoured)

ModelExpected starting price
iPhone 18 ProAround $1,099–$1,299
iPhone 18 Pro MaxAround $1,299–$1,499
Rumoured pricing suggests Apple could raise the prices of the iPhone 18 Pro models by as much as $200. However, some reports indicate that Apple may absorb higher production costs and keep prices broadly in line with the current-generation iPhones.

Carrier upgrades and subscription revenue

The September launch also coincides with the upgrade cycle followed by a large section of Apple's customer base.

Mobile carriers frequently use new iPhone launches to promote device upgrades and new contracts. For consumers whose existing contracts are nearing renewal, the arrival of a new iPhone in September provides an immediate incentive to upgrade.

Apple's services business also benefits from new iPhone sales. Customers purchasing a new device may sign up for services such as Apple Music, Apple TV+, iCloud+ and other subscriptions. Free trials offered with new devices can help introduce customers to Apple's services ecosystem before they begin paying for subscriptions.

This creates an additional revenue opportunity for Apple beyond the initial hardware sale.

Why September remains important for Apple

Apple's September launch cadence has become closely connected to its manufacturing, shipping, carrier and software schedules.

Keeping the iPhone launch in early September allows the company to coordinate semiconductor production with suppliers such as TSMC, secure freight capacity before the holiday rush and coincide with consumer upgrade cycles, reported Forbes.

The timing also gives Apple a significant sales window during the final months of the calendar year. Moving the launch away from September could disrupt several parts of the ecosystem that have been built around the company's established annual release schedule.

Apple has started preparations for its major September iPhone event, with the company expected to introduce the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and an all-new foldable iPhone at the showcase.

Ahead of the event, Apple has opened an Event Support Experience Program lottery for US retail employees interested in travelling to the company's Apple Park campus to help manage the in-person media gathering, as per Mac Rumours.

The selected employees will assist with organising lines, checking in guests, providing directions, greeting attendees, and supporting security teams during the event.

Apple is expected to cover travel and lodging expenses for employees invited to Apple Park to support the media event. However, retail workers who participated in the Worldwide Developers Conference or the iPhone launch in 2025 will not be eligible to participate in the lottery, as per Mac Rumours.

Employees can submit entries for the Event Support Experience Program lottery until August 8. Apple plans to inform selected employees about the results on August 17.

The upcoming event is expected to be one of Apple's biggest product showcases of the year, with the company preparing to highlight new additions to its iPhone lineup.

While Apple has not officially confirmed the products that will be announced, preparations for the event indicate that the company is moving ahead with arrangements for the September launch.
