Melbourne Crime: Man fighting for life with critical wounds after being stabbed while confronting teens breaking into car outside his home

A 41-year-old Melbourne man was left fighting for his life after he was allegedly stabbed several times while confronting a group of teenagers who were allegedly trying to break into a car outside his home in the city's south-east area. According to police, the incident occurred on Govan Street, Langwarrin, at about 12.20am.

9News reported that moments after he confronted the teens, he was stabbed before the group fled the scene. The weapon was left lodged in his body before the man was found by his neighbours, collapsed in the street. He was rushed to hospital with critical wounds and underwent emergency surgery.

Neighbour opens up about the incident

Speaking to 9News, a neighbour said that they were left in shock by the incident. “You just wouldn’t expect it up here. There were like four cop cars and three ambulances,” he said. “We didn’t know what was going on.”

All suspects caught

All the suspects were taken into custody. During the investigation into the incident, the dog squad tracked down a 16-year-old suspect in a nearby backyard, 9News reported. On the other hand, the second teenager, also 16, allegedly involved in the stabbing was arrested at a property in Cranbourne. The arrest of two teens took place at around 4 AM, while a third teenager, aged 17, was arrested on Saturday afternoon, according to ABC Australia.

A resident of Langwarrin claimed that one of the boys was arrested after being captured on his CCTV cameras in his backyard, ABC Australia reported. He said the boy made his way out of his property through a front gate. No charges were formally laid against the two teenagers at the time of filing of this report, and they remained in custody.
