Srinagar: Unidentified gunman killed one non local.and injured another in a targeted attack on Friday evening in Kulgam district of southern Kashmir.

The incident took place in Kelam village of Kulgam when unidentified gunman targetted two non local labourers. Both of them were immediately shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment. The two labourers worked at a local brick kiln and were identified as Deepak and Bhupinder, both in their twenties from Chattisgarh. "Both of them were shifted to GMC Anantnag where one was declared as brought dead while another is undergoing surgery," a senior official told ET. A senior official said that they had arrived in Kashmir a month back.

"Preliminary investigation reveals that the attacker was in civvies and targetted both from a very close range," a senior official told ET.


The armed forces have cordoned the area and launched a search operation to nab the attackers. This is a second attack in southern Kashmir this month. Earlier on July 22 a J&K police head constable Ashiq Hussain Qureshi was killed in a targetted attack in Lal Chowk area of Anantnag district.
