States conducted over 1.69 lakh raids so far in FY27 to curb hoarding of fertilisers: Govt
New Delhi: States have conducted over 1.69 lakh raids so far this fiscal to curb black marketing, hoarding and diversion of fertilisers while 270 FIRs have been registered against the defaulters, Parliament was informed on Friday.

In a written reply to the Lok Sabha, the Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilizers Anupriya Patel said, "To address the issues of black-marketing, hoarding, diversion of fertilizers and other malpractices, fertilizers are declared as an essential commodity under the Essential Commodities Act-1955 and notified under Fertilizer Control Order- 1985."

State governments have been empowered to take action against persons involved in such malpractices. The prosecutions are launched against dealers and companies found violating the fertilizer Control Order.

Moreover, the Department of Agriculture is regularly monitoring the enforcement action taken by States against cases of black marketing, hoarding, sub-standard and diversion on a weekly basis.

As informed by the department of agriculture, Patel informed that during FY 2025-26, 4,84,663 raids were conducted, 17,392 show cause notices have been issued, 6,941 licenses have been suspended/cancelled, and 847 FIRs have been registered against defaulters.

"In FY 2026-27, i.e. from April 1, 2026, to July 24, 2026, 1,69,031 raids have been conducted, 9,127 show cause notices have been issued, 2,868 licenses have been suspended/cancelled, and 270 FIRs have been registered against defaulters to curb these malpractices," she said.
