The recommendations followed the committee’s visit to Jammu and Kashmir in May 2026 to assess security arrangements at key tourist destinations.

A parliamentary committee has recommended that there should be an integrated security and surveillance system covering all key tourist sites in Jammu & Kashmir. These would involve proper CCTV installations, providing a central monitoring system, conducting regular vulnerability checks, and regular audits.

In its 260th report presented in Parliament on Friday, the department of standing committee on home affairs said that there is need to prescribe clear inter-agency SOPs which should be reviewed before the peak tourist season.

The suggestions came after the committee’s visit to Jammu and Kashmir in May 2026 when they went to look at the security at tourist placements. These recommendations come after the terror attack at Pahalgam last year where 25 tourists were killed.

The incorporation of enhanced connectivity, efficient security systems, the emergence of improved tourism facilities and the resurgence of confidence among travelers has led to a sustained surge in arrivals of tourists, according to the committee.

"In this context, security management at tourist destinations assumes special importance, as it directly affects the perception of safety, the quality of visitor experience and the continued growth of the tourism sector," it said.

The report has recognized the measures taken for tourists’ safety in Gulmarg and other tourist spots and pilgrimage centers and acknowledged the efforts made by the police, tourism department and district administration to maintain peace and order.
