Shimla: Over 150 roads have been closed in Himachal Pradesh following torrential rain, and the Shimla MeT office on Tuesday issued a yellow alert for heavy rain in isolated parts of the state till August 10.

A total of 153 roads are closed for vehicular traffic while 58 water supply schemes and 191 transformers were disrupted as of Tuesday evening, according to the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC).

A maximum of 51 roads were blocked in Mandi, followed by 39 in Sirmaur, 36 in Kullu, 15 in Shimla, five each in Kangra and Chamba and two in Una district.

Heavy to very heavy rain lashed parts of the state in the past 24 hours since Monday evening. Nahan received 182.4 mm of rain followed by Dadahu 142 mm, Naina Devi 140.8 mm, Jatton Barrage 70.4 mm, Dhaulakuan 68.5 mm, Malroan 64.2 mm and Olinda 60.6 mm.

A major tragedy was averted as the Sirmaur Police and Home Guard jawans rescued 25 people belonging to the nomad community trapped in the swelling Jalmusha river amid heavy rain in Himachal's Sirmaur district on Tuesday.

About 25 members of four nomadic (Gujjar) families trapped in the river due to a sudden flood caused by heavy rain near the Katasan Temple, about 25 kilometres from Nahan, were rescued by forming a human chain using ropes, said SP Sirmaur NS Negi.
