Guwahati: A Naga village guard was killed while another was injured in a clash with CRPF's CoBRA forces in Bitiang Village in Manipur. Two CoBRA jawans were also injured in the attack.

A senior police official said, "Security forces launched a raid against an illegal Naga Volunteer Group training camp at Bitiang in Noney district. Heavy firing broke out after forces came under fire from armed village volunteers. A large group of women came out while security forces were conducting operations."

The Working Committee of the Joint Tribes Council (JTC) of Noney declared an "immediate and emergency shutdown" of all national highways, railway and national projects in the district to protest the operations by the security forces. In a statement, the council condemned the operation conducted by security forces.

In Kuki, Meitei and Naga inhabited areas of Manipur, there are village volunteers who profess to protect their community while guarding their respective areas.
