Lok Sabha passes bill to raise Supreme Court Judge strength from 34 to 38 without debate

The Lok Sabha passed the Supreme Court (Number of Judges) Amendment Bill, 2026, raising the sanctioned strength of Supreme Court judges from 34 to 38, including the Chief Justice of India. The bill was passed without a debate as opposition members continued sloganeering over the alleged NEET paper leaks and alleged theft of Ram temple donations. A statutory resolution moved by opposition members against the ordinance was also rejected by a voice vote.
