The J&K police took the search operations in two separate UAPA cases
Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir police has attached property worth ₹70 lakh in connection with a UAPA case and conducted searches at 26 locations in a separate UAPA case against Jama'at e Islami (JeI) in Baramulla district.

J&K police said they secured an attachment order from the NIA Court in Sopore in connection with a case registered in 2008 at Chandoosa police station. The attachment order pertained to land belonging to alleged accused Parvaiz Ahmad Famda of Chandoosa. Police said the property has been valued at Rs 69,82,550 and the valuation certificate has also been obtained. Baramulla police has also obtained an arrest warrant from the NIA Court in Sopore, against another accused, Abdul Rashid Bhat.

In a related development, police in Sopore conducted coordinated searches at 26 locations across Sopore police station limits in connection with an ongoing investigation into a case registered under the UAPA against JeI. The outfit was banned by the BJP-led central government in 2019 for five years and the ban was extended for another five years in 2024.

Police said searches were carried out at residential and other premises linked to JeI leaders, members and activists across different areas of Sopore police station limits.
