Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh is likely to witness intensified monsoon activity over the next few days, with widespread rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning and isolated heavy to very heavy showers forecast across several districts, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Monday.

Maximum temperatures are expected to fall by 4-6 degrees Celsius, it said.

According to the Regional Meteorological Centre, Lucknow, rain accompanied by thunderstorms was likely at most places across eastern Uttar Pradesh and at many places in western Uttar Pradesh on Monday, with the activity expected to become more widespread across the state on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The increase in monsoon activity is likely to bring relief from the prevailing humid weather over the next two to three days.

The IMD has warned of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning at isolated places across the state through July 30. Heavy rain was likely at isolated places in several districts on Monday, while heavy to very heavy rainfall has been forecast for parts of the state on Tuesday and Wednesday.

For Monday, districts including Prayagraj, Sonbhadra, Mirzapur, Maharajganj, Siddharthnagar, Gonda, Balrampur, Shravasti, Bahraich, Lakhimpur Kheri, Sitapur, Hardoi, Farrukhabad, Barabanki, Bijnor, Amroha, Moradabad, Rampur, Bareilly, Pilibhit, Shahjahanpur, Sambhal and Badaun were likely to receive heavy rainfall.

On Tuesday, the possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall has been forecast for Sonbhadra, Saharanpur, Muzaffarnagar, Bijnor, Moradabad, Rampur and Bareilly, while heavy rain is also likely in districts including Banda, Chitrakoot, Kaushambi, Prayagraj, Mirzapur, Chandauli, Lakhimpur Kheri, Shamli, Meerut, Amroha, Pilibhit, Shahjahanpur, Sambhal, Badaun, Hamirpur, Mahoba and Jhansi.

The weather office has advised people to remain alert for the possibility of lightning, thunderstorms and heavy rainfall in vulnerable areas. Localised waterlogging and disruption to normal life may occur in places receiving intense spells of rain.
