Jaipur: Several parts of Rajasthan, including the state capital, received heavy rainfall on Friday, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) warning of heavy to very heavy showers in the coming days.

The rain, it said, comes as the southwest monsoon became active again.

According to the IMD's Jaipur centre, Alwar recorded 19.4 mm rainfall during the day, while Jaipur and Dausa received 4 mm each, and Sangaria 3.5 mm.

Rain led to the day temperature dropping by more than two degrees Celsius.

The weather department said there is a strong likelihood of continued intense rainfall activity across the state over the next few days. Explaining the rain activity, a Met spokesperson said an upper air cyclonic circulation persists over the southwestern parts of Uttar Pradesh and adjoining areas.

The monsoon trough is currently passing through Sri Ganganagar and Delhi. Under the influence of these systems, most parts of eastern Rajasthan are expected to witness active monsoon conditions and continued rainfall activity over the next week.

Meanwhile, IMD said moderate to heavy rainfall is likely in parts of Bharatpur, Jaipur, Kota, Ajmer, and Udaipur divisions between August 8 and 10. It has predicted very heavy rainfall at places in the eastern region.

In western Rajasthan, including parts of Jodhpur and Bikaner divisions, rainfall activity is expected to increase between August 8 and 10.

A let-up in rain is expected from August 15 onwards, the IMD said.
