Speed up development works and provide immediate solutions to urgent issues: Greater Bengaluru Development Minister Krishna Byre Gowda
Greater Bengaluru Development Minister Krishna Byre Gowda on Monday directed officials to speed up road and infrastructure works along the Hennur-Bagalur Main Road stretch between the junction and Geddalahalli, stressing the need for an integrated approach to ease traffic congestion and improve road safety.

Inspecting the ongoing works, Gowda said road development should go beyond resurfacing and include efficient drainage systems, wider footpaths, safer pedestrian infrastructure and measures to improve traffic flow. He asked officials to complete pending works in a coordinated manner while minimising inconvenience to residents and commuters.

Reviewing drainage infrastructure along the corridor, the minister directed officials to ensure smooth rainwater flow and prevent waterlogging. He said drainage improvements should be planned alongside road works so that the infrastructure functions as a single integrated system.

Emphasising pedestrian safety, Gowda asked officials to assess available road space and widen footpaths wherever feasible. Damaged footpath slabs should be repaired to ensure uninterrupted movement for pedestrians, he said, adding that road and footpath development must be carried out together to make streets safer and more accessible.

The minister also instructed officials to put in place alternative traffic arrangements during construction to reduce disruption. Departments concerned should coordinate closely to prevent bottlenecks around work sites and minimise inconvenience to commuters, he said.

To address congestion at key intersections, Gowda called for a scientific redesign of junctions based on traffic volumes and local road conditions. He said location-specific solutions, including road design improvements and supporting infrastructure, should be developed to facilitate smoother vehicle movement.

The minister further directed officials to expedite pending land acquisition and handover processes linked to the project, saying delays should not hold up infrastructure works.

On white-topping works, Gowda said these should form part of a broader infrastructure plan that includes road widening, drainage, footpaths and other civic amenities. He also stressed coordination between departments to avoid repeated excavation and duplication of work while ensuring quality and timely execution.

KR Puram MLA Byrathi Basavaraj, Greater Bengaluru Authority Chief Commissioner M Maheshwar Rao, Bengaluru East City Corporation Commissioner DS Ramesh, and Additional Commissioner Lokhande Snehal Sudhakar accompanied the minister during the inspection.
